Join our resident Naturalist for an afternoon of inquiry and exploration in beautiful Kings Mountain State Park

Advance Registration required – visit E-Corps Store this includes your park admission. Registration closes 5:00 pm Friday.

Wear your walking shoes, bring water to drink, your camera, and field guides. The trail is only suitable for ambulatory humans no fur babies, and will be up to 3 miles.

Our crew will email participants Friday evening with detailed directions on our meeting spot inside the park.

It would take you all day to drive from North Carolina’s mountains to the sea, a journey of 503 miles under skies of Carolina blue and through high peaks and Foothills, Piedmont and Coastal Plain before finally reaching the shore. And if you drove the coast—only 300 miles as the crow flies—it’s a days drive as you follow the undulating line where water meets land, passing swamps, marshes, pocosins, and the shallow sounds on our eastern edge.

But the reality is this: North Carolina—the Earth, even—is barely a speck, cosmically speaking.

Go outside on the darkest night and look up. Even in the brightest of our cities you’ll see stars and planets overhead, only a handful out of hundreds of billions of stars and planets, nebulae and galaxies all right there, all out of reach.

REI Community Night: Celebrating NC State Parks Centennial

Course overview

Join REI Charlotte for a members only community night event celebrating our North Carolina State Parks Centennial! Park rangers from Crowders Mountain State Park, Lake Norman State Park and Morrow Mountain State Park will share what makes their parks special. Join REI and discover the amazing natural resources and opportunities that await you, all within an hour of Charlotte. After presentations, REI will celebrate the NC State Parks 100th birthday with cake and light refreshments. After the break, REI will show the 30 minute film, “Here in This Place,” a celebration of North Carolina State Parks. Afterwards, participants will have the opportunity to see how they can get involved and help ensure that the parks will be around for another 100 years!
